Mei has always dabbled in art and craft since young. She is a self-taught artist who has been influenced by her teachers and her faith in God. She has learned from some great artists around the world; one example is Jo Sonja where Mei was the first Singaporean to attend a master workshop with Jo Sonja in Eureka, California. Mei has been an artist for over 30 years now and now runs a successful art studio and gallery called Heartroom Gallery.
Her journey as an artist started with her desire to help someone she knew to pay for their medical expenses. Art was something she knew well and through sheer determination, she was able to provide for that person and was able to pay the medical bills. Today she continues to use art to help and inspire people.
Mei is both an artist and a teacher. She is the only person in Singapore who is a master artist teaching the Zhostovo style of decorative painting. This is commonly known as Russian Florals. She has held solo exhibitions together with the support of UOB Bank to raise funds for the Arc Children’s Centre.
